Sample IRC client installation
Need some help installing and configuring an IRC client? We’ve listed the steps for installing Pidgin and setting up the chat client below.
- 01 Download and run the installer.
- 02 Follow the installation wizard to install Pidgin onto your system.
- 03 Open Pidgin for the first time. The Buddy List window will display first.
- 04 Select Accounts > Manage Accounts from the menu bar.
- 05 Click the Add... button.
- 06 Choose “IRC” from the Protocol dropdown menu.
- 07 Select a username and password for the account.
- 08 Make sure “irc.freenode.net” is entered in the Server field and save your changes.
- 09 Type “REGISTER <IRC account password> <your e-mail address>” when the NickServ window displays. Note the order of the REGISTER command: first password, then email address. Hit Enter when you are done.
- 10 Check your email to retrieve the command needed to complete the registration process. It should say something like “/msg NickServ VERIFY REGISTER <account name> <registration code>”.
- 11 Enter this command in the NickServ window and hit Enter.
- 12 Type “/join #metasploit” to join the Metasploit Project’s IRC channel.
And you’re done!
